Hello West Hill Softball Families & Players!

As the weather starts to turn to spring this week (and we celebrate 3/14 Pi Day!), the excitement is rising for the upcoming 2022 Spring Season.  Here are some reminders of what’s coming up for WHS.

WHS HAS GROWN ANOTHER 15%
Thanks to everyone who has signed up for the 2022 season.  We have now reached 393 registrations (up 51 from last season), which is enough for 35 teams – our biggest season yet!  This will include 4 u7 teams, 7 u9 teams, 8 u11 teams, 7 u13 teams, 6 u15 teams, and 3 u17/u19 teams.  We still have space for a couple more players in u9 and u11 as well as Timbits.  Can we reach 400?

EVALUATIONS NOW COMPLETE, TEAM SELECTION & COMMUNICATION
Our last evaluation session (u11) wrapped up yesterday.  Thank you to all the volunteers who made it happen, and to all the parents that adjusted schedules to ensure their kids could be in attendance.  We now move through the next step of the process, team selection.  We are now contacting families across the different age categories, starting with our Division 1 teams.  We will be announcing more teams each week, with all u9-u19 teams expected to be shared by April 2.  Again, please be patient as we work through this process as there are many factors that need to be considered.  If you haven’t heard from us by April 2nd, then you may reach out to inquire.

WHS SPRING BREAK:  MARCH 17-29
We have all been extremely busy in the past few weeks, and everyone deserves a break!   As we work through all the “paperwork” to finalize preparations for the season, there will be no further WHS-run clinics or evaluations for the period of March 17-29.  Many of our players have been busy finishing up their winter sports seasons, competing in city championships and provincials.  We are very proud of all our athletes, and love to hear and see all about their successes, regardless of their sport!  We hope they are able to enjoy the spring break and recharge themselves for the spring season ahead!

APRIL PITCHING & CATCHING CLINICS
We are currently working to finalize plans for a two-week pitching and/or catching clinics on the first two weekends in April (tentatively Saturday Apr 2 & 9, 10am-1pm).  We will be able to share more details about these clinics once we finalize with our instructors.  Stay tuned!

APRIL TEAM PRACTICES
WHS has secured more gym space (Springbank & CFIS) for the first two weekends in April (2-3 & 9-10) to allow some teams to start/continue their indoor practices.  These dates and times will be communicated to specific teams as they are announced.

START OF SEASON DATES – REMINDER:  (u9 to u19)

  • April 18-24:  Tentative Opening Practice Week
  • April 25-29:  WHS Exhibition Game week
  • April 30-May 1:  Calgary Minor Opening Weekend

These are our officially scheduled dates, however, if the weather continues to be warm the next two weeks, we may be able to get out on the fields sooner!

RESPECT IN SPORT
We are currently at 75% compliancy with our RIS course completions.   If your RIS has not yet been completed, you were notified via email today (please check your junk email as well).  Please visit: https://www.westhillsoftball.ca/parents/respect-in-sport/ and complete your course and/or submit your certification number.

Our RIS deadline is now Monday, March 28 to allow us to submit rosters on time.
