West Hill Softball is pleased to announce new President
West Hill Softball Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Shireen Bond as our new President effective February 1, 2024. Shireen has been an active member of the West Hill Softball community for the past 6 years. She has been involved extensively at the team level, contributing as either an Assistant Coach or Head Coach for each of her daughter’s seasons. More recently, Shireen has also taken a valuable role within WHS, serving on the Board, and acting as the Appeals and Conflicts Coordinator for the last three years.
Having played competitive softball throughout her youth and into her early 20s, Shireen brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the President role, with innovative ideas on how WHS can expand and reach new heights.
As evaluations for each group get started in the upcoming weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to meet Shireen. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to her new role, and we are all excited for the new journey that she will lead us on.

After leading West Hill Softball for the past six years, Brian Antaya will be moving into the role of Past President, and will remain on as part of our WHS Board and Tournament Director.
We sincerely appreciate Brian’s exceptional commitment and unwavering dedication to West Hill Softball as President. His hard work and contributions will continue to have a lasting impact on our organization.
We would also like to express our gratitude to Brian’s wife Cathy, and his daughters Zoe and Kenzy, for their continuous support of the association and the countless hours he has invested in his role as President.
Here are a few words from Brian:
Over the past 6+ years, I have seen this association grow and become a significant part of the community that we live. Wherever you go, you see our bright red hats and hoodies! I am extremely proud of the work we have done as an entire community to ensure girls in SW Calgary had the opportunity to play the sport of Fastpitch Softball. In total, we have seen over 1000 families try our sport in the last six years!
Recently, an opportunity presented itself as a fellow Board member bravely offered to elevate their role to President. I have had some time to reflect, and determined that this is an excellent opportunity for me to pass the reins as President, just as Mark Beerkircher did to me back in 2017! Both my daughters are now in the High School group, and with this move I can focus more of my time to their teams and our family. The timing is also right because many of our Board Members have had daughters age out of the program, and we look to re-energize the program with new ideas, and a new set of volunteer board members to push us forward!
Rest assured, I am not leaving the association, and remain committed to putting on a great 2024 season! I will see us through the registration process supporting my fellow board members and continue the transition to Amanda, our new WHS Administrator. I will continue to sit in on the board as Past-President, and of course, coaching my daughters. In addition, I am excited to continue as our WHS Tournament Director to put on our marquee event in June!
We will all celebrate our accomplishments later in the season, but I do want to thank everyone in this wonderful community (and there are SO many of you) who have supported me in this role and with the association over the years. I hope to have more time to sit and talk with the many great friends and fellow parents/coaches/players this season!
